Happy to be able to report that RVPT members Ray Bignell and Gerard Butler have bought 1775, (RCK920),
a Leyland Titan PD3 with Metro-Cammell bodywork which had been new to Ribble in 1962.

1775 was collected yesterday and transferred to a temporary storage facility in Cheshire alongside sister,
1793. It is hoped that 1775 will move to Freckleton in the near future when space becomes available.

Ray has provided some photographs which he took yesterday:

Splendid!

[Ps all it needs now is a coat or two of leaf red]
Couple of points to add to the information supplied by Geoff. 1775 is taxed and tested so it should be available for a number of events this summer which RVPT plans to attend. We will get it thoroughly checked over just to be sure and then it can come to our depot where it will be housed on a permanent basis.
Currently it is fitted with a synchromesh gearbox but we will be getting all the necessary parts to convert it back to original condition with a pnuemo-cyclic gearbox. This will be done over a winter period when resources permit.
Although 1775 has not been restored as such it is in good condition and represents a type which was a big feature of Ribble during the 1960s and 1970s. Wolverhampton had a lot of Guys with similar Met-Cam bodywork but I can't think of too many other operators who took this style.
Finally, we will not be taking up the painting suggestion put forward by "the other place"

Brilliant - I loved those 'tanks'. always remember a race between a 'tank' (150 service) and a seagull (J1) down the Salmesbury straight heading into Preston! The 'tank' won!! I was on the looser. This was c1967. See you soon, hopefully.

To be honest it looks much better in the scheme its in. I only (just) remember these in NBC colours, until 1841 was done in cherry red after withdrawal and the darker colour suits them well.

A good decision there fellas. To a man of a certain age such as myself, those Tanks WERE Ribble and the collection has been missing a vital vehicle.
Seem to remember seeing quite a few around Bolton and also when visiting my sister in Lancaster and Morecambe. It's presence at Freck will certainly bring a smile to my face (when can get up there of course).
If and when the gearbox gets changed back to it's semi auto configuration, I'll be keeping a beady eye on 122 to make sure a manual gearbox doesn't mysteriously appear.........(tee hee)

Jon. It's funny you should say that. Only yesterday we were saying.....

Fantastic to see 1775 is still going strong.

It was for some years based at Chorley, along with 1784 & 1796 from this batch. They were regular performers on the long 311 trunk from Liverpool to Blackburn. On reaching Blackburn most duties included a double round trip on the busy B13 (later 213) Blackburn - Great Harwood service, before heading back to Chorley,Ormskirk and Liverpool.

The 311 service had very complex vehicle and crew rostering arrangements involving vehicles 'overnighting' at foreign depots. Any breakdowns or other complications could sometimes mean vehicles could be 'lost' from home for days at a time.

Thanks for that information. Although we knew 1775 was based initially at Chorley we didn't know what duties it performed. This info will allow our blind 'twiddlers' to display authentic route data.

Would be quite a run to recreate some day! I still harbour thoughts of doing a 158 from Blackpool to Rochdale. I have 1775 as moving to Fleetwood sometime between 4/67 and 2/68, still there in 8/72 but at Bootle in 1/73 where it stayed until at least 1979 (probably taken from REC books).
