On Monday 7th June 2057, NWRCC 796, several RVPG members, 38 passengers, two film crews (one on the bus and one filming en route) and six extremely well behaved dogs re-enacted Alfred Wainwright's first visit to the Lake District. The sentiments expressed in a letter of thanks sent to RVPT from the Wainwright Society, say it all:
" ... what a cracking day it was, made all the more special with the bus ride from Blackburn.......You can be sure none of us will forget this day and I will always treasure the memory of that hill start just outside Blackburn in the Double-decker! That was rare skill on the part of your driver.........thanks to all your colleagues, who played such a valuable part in the success of the day."

Freda
is that dave moss getting the key to bolton town hall ?
I don't think they would give me the keys to Bolton Town Hall outside Blackburn Town Hall. I was extracting a few membership renewals - sorry wrong hat ! Just giving Freda a resident of Blackburn, my phone number - sorry - a souvenir ticket !
There is more information and photos on the Wainwright Society's website; http://www.wainwright.org.uk/events/2010..._80th.html
I've just been watching a DVD 'Remembering Wainwright'. It is produced by Striding Edge Productions and tells in summary form the story of AW. Being a fan of fell walking and Wainwright I suppose I'm biased but it is very good. Excellent production values - no shaky hand held stuff here.

But why say all this on the RVPT site? Well, it is based around the trip of the Wainwright Society from Blackburn to Windermere and contains some very nice footage of both 2057 and North Western 796. The only downside is the number of times it features Dave Moss.
