Notes These were the first air braked double deckers for Ribble, and with Leyland ceasing passenger vehicle body construction Ribble like many other companies switched to the Metro Cammell "Orion" body . The 1955 order was for 50 of these double deckers , half with platform doors and half without. In 1970 four vehicles of the batch were converted to tuition vehicles - not initially for driver training but for classrooms to explain about the new fangled decimal currency being introduced on 15 February 1971 . Our two vehicles were withdrawn and sold into preservation in 1980/1, while the other two soldiered on as training vehicles and were still owned by Ribble in 1988. After various owners 1391 was acquired by the Trust in 1998 , while 1399 had been owned by member Dave Berry and others before being donated to the Trust . Only one of these vehicles will eventually be restored. |
